Politics intensifies over voter list, Amit Shah accuses opposition of helping infiltrators
Amit Shah’s Fiery Address Stokes Controversy
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has escalated the political rhetoric over the contentious issue of voter lists, directly accusing opposition parties of aiding “infiltrators” to manipulate electoral rolls.1 In a fiery public address, Shah claimed that certain political groups are deliberately turning a blind eye to the inclusion of illegal immigrants in voter lists for their own political gain. He alleged that this practice undermines national security and sovereignty, asserting that the government will take firm action to ensure the integrity of the country’s democratic process. Shah’s remarks have sparked a fresh wave of political debate, with the opposition vehemently denying the allegations and accusing the ruling party of using divisive language to polarize the electorate.
Opposition Labels Accusations as ‘Desperate and Divisive’
The opposition has swiftly and strongly condemned Amit Shah’s statements, labeling them as a desperate attempt to divert attention from pressing economic issues and to create communal tensions ahead of upcoming elections. Leaders from various opposition parties held a joint press conference, calling the accusations baseless and a clear example of the ruling party’s strategy to stoke fear and prejudice. They argued that the Election Commission of India is responsible for maintaining and updating voter lists, and any irregularities should be addressed through the proper legal and administrative channels. The opposition’s unified response indicates a hardening of political battle lines, with the voter list issue now a central point of contention in the ongoing political discourse.

Punjab-Haryana High Court reprimands Electricity Corporation, says denial of job to former naval officer is unfair
High Court Rebukes Electricity Corporation for Denying Job to Naval Veteran
Honoring Skills and Ensuring Rehabilitation
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sharply criticized the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), a state-owned power utility, for unfairly denying an appointment to a former Indian Navy serviceman. The court, led by Justice Harpreet Singh Brar, emphasized that the technical skills and rigorous training acquired during service must be honored in a “practical manner” by providing employment opportunities. The case involved Vinod Kumar, a naval veteran who had applied for the post of Junior Engineer (Electrical) under the ex-servicemen quota. Despite clearing the recruitment test, he was denied the job after the corporation questioned the validity of his naval trade equivalence certificate. The court pointed out that two other ex-servicemen with similar qualifications had been successfully appointed under the same advertisement, highlighting the corporation’s inconsistent and arbitrary approach.
A Duty to Support Ex-Servicemen
The court’s ruling went beyond the specific case, stressing a broader social responsibility to facilitate the rehabilitation of armed forces personnel who retire at a relatively young age. Justice Brar warned against applying recruitment rules so rigidly that they effectively nullify the benefit of reservation for ex-servicemen. The judge directed the managing director of the DHBVN to file a detailed affidavit explaining the basis for their decision and how many ex-servicemen have been selected since the essential conditions for the junior engineer posts were implemented. This strong rebuke underscores the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring that the contributions of servicemen and women are recognized and that their transition to civilian life is not hindered by bureaucratic hurdles.

Rahul Gandhi Urges PM Modi for Rs 20,000 Cr Flood Relief for Punjab, Calls Rs 1,600 Cr Aid ‘Grave Injustice’
A Stark Disparity in Damage Assessment
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the urgent need for a more comprehensive flood relief package for Punjab. In his letter, Gandhi stated that the ₹1,600 crore initial aid announced by the Union government is a “grave injustice” to the state, which he claims has suffered losses amounting to at least ₹20,000 crore. Gandhi’s assessment follows his recent visit to the flood-affected areas, where he witnessed the “shocking devastation.” He noted that over four lakh acres of paddy crop have been destroyed, more than 10 lakh animals have perished, and countless homes have been lost, particularly affecting marginalized communities.
The Call for a ‘Bolder Response’
Gandhi’s letter emphasizes that the current crisis demands a “bolder response” from the central government. He has urged the Prime Minister to facilitate a quick and accurate assessment of the damage and to announce a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package that is commensurate with the scale of the destruction. The Congress leader’s stance is in line with the sentiments expressed by the state’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, which had also criticized the central aid as a “cruel joke” and an “insult” to the people of Punjab. This collective push from both opposition parties and the state government highlights the widespread belief that the central government’s response has been insufficient to address the humanitarian and economic crisis in the state.
